I was a lil' skeptical to run the crack at first too, but Oscar wouldn't do anything harmful to people's computers. It's always a little scary clicking an EXE file you aren't 100% sure is safe though. Funny lil joke Oscar! :)

John Waterhouse: Oscar didn't, I did. I've been doing ANSi artwork for ages and the ansi/ascii scene and the warez scene have grown together given their similar underground (BBS) roots and that's not much of a secret for anyone who was a BBS user. The pure fact that I know how to do ansi/ascii artwork or I know how an NFO is designed doesn't mean anyone here supports the warez scene or uses cracks at all. Good try, though.

That's right. My original NFO was a shame... not only I suck making ANSI/ASCII art, but I didn't have to much time to get the joke up, so it was a piece of plain english. Zeh added the realism needed to complete the file and make the joke more convincing.

Here is the thing John: security experts are the first ones trying to crack their networks. In a similar fashion, knowing how a crack looks like doesn't make us supporters of such practices.

An empty stand alone Flash projector is about 848KB. That's with nothing in it at all. Oscar's lil' file is about that size too, so I don't think he is hiding anything in there if that is what you are worried about.

Actually it is about 462kb. A Flash projector file has a copy of the standalone Flash player inside, that's why it weights so much... My exported swf is less than 2kb! But you wouldn't believe a crack comes in a swf file, right? :)

Sorry if wasn't very polite. What I meant is I would like to live in a wonderful world in which everyone does only legal things, but for people like me who hasn't the money to buy a legal copy of any software it's imposible to do it. I'm not crying, this is a fact.
How could buy it a begginer in web page development buy software if he/she can't get money because doesn't have the money to buy the tools he/she need to do the job?.
I'm not asking you to give me a serial number or crack for anything. You decide not to do it, fine. But don't talk about it as it would be a capital sin. It's not. It's the only posibility for many people.

I'd be careful about running this. (Or any real crack as well!)

I took a look "under the hood" of the EXE using tools from www.buraks.com and there is a ton of actionscript inside this seemingly simple joke. I did not look closely so probably this is just automatic stuff included due to the components used.

However, without a closer look I'd never run it on one of my machines. Bottom line, you cannot trust cracks or jokes.

Well, after reading all these posts I think it's safe to say that you've succeeded Oscar. I can appreciate the facility but no one has spoken out on behalf of the crackers so I will attempt to do so.

Since inception the internet has been designed as a way to take advantage... of many things. Communications, Information, Business, Education, People, Culture... the possibilities are endless.

That is the beauty and the fear and it all happens together on a (moderately) level playing field. If you build something someone will bring it down. If you bring it down you will get caught. If you get caught you will be asked to build something better.

Information is the only constant. Curiosity the only course. Why charge $400.00 for a piece of software? Well because you can, dearhearts. Why do we crack that software? So that students in college... kids at home... anyone with a fleeting glimpse of curiosity can utilize that software without paying for it, of course... until they decide they like it or they don't.

I have utilized such software in the past and have bought licenses for every product I continue to use. I refuse to pay for a product I haven't fully tested or seen. As a software engineer, I think it pushes us to develop better software so that others will appreciate its use.

I think it is simply the fruition of the term "Let the buyer beware." Well they have responded, in mass. I hope my opinions do not upset anyone, just trying to cast my .2 cents.
